The importance of having a job is particularly perceptible in its absence. Work (both paid and unpaid) provides self-esteem, income and camaraderie. Paid work generates income and allows for financial self-reliance. Income is the means to provide for family, affording a roof over your head, saving for pleasant things and developing oneself. Work constitutes as a meaningful activity, determines social status and renders healthy. One’s education often determines the line of work that is entered, as well as highlighting interests and areas of comfort. Having funds is a basic need. If a person were to encounter hardship, it is imperative the government provides for livable conditions.
